ou are looking for the least expensive way around town - and feel confident in your riding skills, you can always rent a motorcycle from our booking desk in Centerplace Guesthouse.
A few things to leave behind when on the roads of Thailand;
| A sense that some foreign or Thai rulebook will cover every situation and protect you - it won't. An attitude that you have a decreed "right to the road " you don't. |
What you actually have is a right to share it with; keen alertness, good grace, allways-on patience, humilty, respect for every other road user (despite YOUR opinion of their driving skills), commonsense and a well developed sense of humour.
You will still get to your destination - FOR SURE and as always it truly is, Amazing Thailand!

Here are most of your options;
there is also a white Chiang Mai community bus with fixed routes and fixed stops - great value and a very cheap way to see the city in aircon comfort.
Samlor | Tuk Tuk | Song Theouw |

A very traditional form of transport and sadly, they won't be with us much longer. Tell the driver where you want to go and negoatiate a fare with courtesy and the best of humour. Dont worry about the load, these old boys have strength and skills developed from a lifetime on pedals. | If thats a tuk tuk then I must be in Thailand! Tell the driver your destination and negoatiate a fare. Of course, the driver will insist on the highest price, that's just how tuk tuk drivers are. for the whole vehicle, expect to pay around 60 Baht for a short trip, up to 120 Baht for longer or late at night. | The red bus will take you where you want to go (as long as your destination suits him/her and the other passengers), just signal one and chat to the driver through the pasenger window. Within the old city expect to pay 20 baht per passenger, more if it is further than the city confines or places like Airport Plaza. Other colours Yellow, Blue, White and Green run on fixed routes and fares - on all the major arteries. |
Meter Taxi | Car & Driver | Rental Car |

Relatively new to Chiang Mai and gradually replacing the prolific Red Bus. Now you may find the driver may not want to turn on the meter, but you might be surprised to find the fixed fare they ask for is actually a pretty good deal. Drivers will give you their card and you can phone them. You can call the central # 053 279 291 in English and Thai But don't always expect a military like response - it depends on many factors. So, if you see one parked or with the red light on, get the drivers attention and negotiate. | There are many options here. from small sedans, luxury cars, comfortable four wheel drives and the crowd friendly minibus. Expect to pay from 1,000 Baht per day plus petrol or diesel. The drivers are very used to tourists and will speak good English and can also help you plan your trip. Often its the smartest way to get around and see all Chiang Mai and the North of Thailand has to offer. | Feel up to a self-drive experience? Its not as difficult as it might at first appear. you can choose from small economy sedans, pick-up trucks, luxury sedans and four wheel drives. Expect to pay from around 1,000 Baht per day. There are many choices but I highly reccomend Boyd" on Loi Kroh - just walk up soi 2 and turn left for about 50 meters. You will find Boyd behind his desk in a wheelchair with his good humour and reasonable prices. |
